PRAGUE IN MAY

Take a breath of fresh air and enjoy the beauty of spring in Prague! May, more than any other month of the year, wants us to feel alive after the sleepy cold months. The warm energy and warm temperatures of this month cause flowers to blossom, people to participate in joyful celebrations, and Prague restaurants to open their outdoor seating and patio dining, including the cozy terrace of our fine-dining Alcron Restaurant.

PRAGUE IN MAY
LOVE IS THE AIR
The 1st of May is celebrated in the Czech Republic as Labour Day. May Day has also been known as the day of love long before the Czechs got to know about Valentine’s Day. According to the old tradition, a girl should be kissed under a cherry blossom to stay beautiful and healthy all year round. The most iconic place to kiss your loved one is on Petrin Hill, which you can even see from the hotel room of our chic hotel Almanac X Alcron. If you take a short walk through the park to the St. Wenceslas Vineyard, you can join the Festival of Rosé Wines. How about making your day even sweeter? Relax at our modern Elias Coffee Shop for a delicious cake and fresh coffee, or book a romantic dinner at our legendary Alcron Restaurant. Do you feel like celebrating this special day until late-night hours? There is no better place to do so than in our stylish Alcron Bar with one of our special cocktails.
PRAGUE’S SPECIAL EVENTS ARE IN FULL BLOOM
You can start the month with the active vibes of one of the most beautiful courses in the world, the Prague Marathon on the 4th, winding through the historical sites of Prague. Please note that some streets in the city center will be closed to drive through. As our popular hotel Almanac X Alcron is located right in the city center, you can use our valet parking and comfortably reach the most beautiful parts of Prague on foot. On the 8th, the Czechs celebrate Liberation Day, and the Senate of the Parliament opens its doors to the public. Open House Prague, from the 12th to the 18th, offers another unique opportunity to see the buildings in Prague that are normally not accessible to the public. International Museum Day follows on the 18th and offers free admission to most museums and galleries. During the traditional event called Night of Churches, many churches in Prague will open on the evening of the 23rd so visitors can enjoy a unique night-time view of their special premises.
FOOD AND DRINK FESTIVALS WILL FILL YOU UP
The city’s leading vegan food event takes place on the very first day of this month at Naplavka. Wine, food, and music….do not miss out on this tempting combination at the Spring Wine Festival held from the 8th until the 11th at the Pisek Gate, near Prague Castle. You can look forward to one more event of this kind at the 3-day Wine & Food Festival on Shooting Island starting on the 16th. Lovers of top-fermented beers and juicy burgers will have a blast at the Beer & Burger Festival, which takes place in Křižíkova Street and Karlinske Square on the 18th. The event, Prague Vineyards, invites wine lovers to St. Wenceslas Vineyard and Strahov Monastery on the last weekend of May to stroll around and taste a variety of wines.
FEED YOUR SOUL WITH THE TONES OF MAY
This month, you can enjoy the real music event boom in Prague. Here are suggestions for only a few out of so many. From the 1st until the 3rd of May, you can visit the popular multi-genre music festival United Islands of Prague held on several islands of the Vltava River with the main stage on Strelecký Island. Blues-rock superstar Joe Bonamassa plays his concert at the O2 Universum on the 2nd. On the very next day, virtuoso violinist David Garrett presents his unique blend of melodies also at O2 Universum. Fans of the movie Dirty Dancing will have fun on the 8th at the special music event, which combines a screening of this famous film with the music performed by a live band and singers. On the 15th, do not miss the spectacular St. John’s Navalis Sound & Light Show, starting with the procession from Prague Castle to Charles Bridge, and watch a flotilla of historical boats, fireworks, and Baroque music. The Czech band Queenie plays the best hits of the famous band Queen at Prague's O2 Arena on the 16th and 17th. Celebrate 50 years since the band Iron Maiden was formed at their concert at Letnany Airport on the last day of May.
